(June 13, 2026) Nesting Bird Surveys Field Training (NBSFT001)

Description

Nesting Bird Surveys Field Training

For any issues with registration please contact: kcowman@sequoiaeco.com.

Learn how to conduct nesting bird surveys through this hands-on training.

You’ll learn to:

  • Translate observations into defensible field documentation
  • Identify nest types in the field and determine whether a nest is active, inactive, or in progress—without disturbing the site
  • Walk a compliant transect and document a nest find to a defensible standard: GPS coordinates, photo sequence, and datasheet entry
  • Communicate a find to your PM: species, status, buffer, and whether work needs to stop

Ideal for: Field biologists, environmental consultants, and resource managers responsible for pre-construction surveys or project compliance monitoring during nesting season.

Course Format:

Field training

Completing the self-paced course is recommended before attending the field day. Use the code HAPPYBIRDDAY for $50 off. The field day is designed to activate and apply knowledge you already have. With this background knowledge, participants will arrive familiar with:

  • Federal and state protections for migratory and nesting birds (MBTA, CEQA)
  • How to recognize breeding indicators and interpret bird behavior in the field
  • How to plan, conduct, and document a compliant nesting bird survey
Cancellation & Rescheduling Policy:
SIERRA does not offer cancellations or refunds for course registrations. However, we understand that plans can change and circumstances arise. If you notify us at least 48 hours in advance of your scheduled course, we are happy to offer you the option to:
  • Reschedule to a future course date, or
  • Receive a course credit to be applied toward a future training
Requests made fewer than 48 hours before the course, or failure to attend, are not eligible for rescheduling or credit.
