8. Section 106 and CEQA Cultural Resource Requirements: What Burn Practitioners Need to Know (FIRE8)

Description

Audience: Burn bosses, burn plan authors, SCCFSC staff, and landowners

A compliance literacy course covering when cultural resource surveys are triggered under federal and state law, how the California Historical Resources Information System (CHRIS) records check process works, what an AB 52 tribal consultation looks like and why it can affect burn planning timelines, and how to work effectively with a qualified archaeologist or cultural resource specialist. Participants will understand how to identify whether a burn project requires cultural resource review, what that process looks like in practice, and how to plan for it in project schedules. This course does not train participants to conduct cultural resource surveys but ensures they understand when one is needed and what to expect.
