Wildfire Fuel Mitigation

7. Cultural Resource Awareness for Prescribed Burn Practitioners (FIRE7)

Description

Audience: All burn crew members, burn bosses, and PBA volunteers

A foundational course covering what qualifies as a cultural resource in the California regulatory context, including archaeological sites, tribal cultural sites, historic structures, cultural landscapes, sacred places, and artifacts. Participants learn to recognize surface indicators of cultural resources in the field, understand that many significant resources are subsurface and not visible, and know the legal obligation to stop work and notify the appropriate party when something is encountered during burn preparation or operations. This course fills a gap in existing FFT2 and S-130 curricula and is directly applicable to burn site preparation, line construction, and hand crew work in sensitive landscapes.
