2. Regulatory Compliance for Burn Operations (FIRE2)

Description

Audience: Burn bosses, burn plan authors, SCCFSC staff, and landowners

Provides a working overview of the key environmental and regulatory frameworks that intersect with prescribed burn planning in California. Topics include CEQA categorical exemptions applicable to prescribed burns and when full review may be triggered, Bay Area Air Quality Management District (BAAQMD) smoke management plan requirements, Endangered Species Act (ESA) and Fish and Wildlife Service consultation thresholds, and awareness of Lake and Streambed Alteration Agreement (LSAA) requirements for burns in or adjacent to riparian corridors. This is a compliance literacy course, not a legal course. Participants will understand what they do not know and when to bring in qualified professionals.
